Pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) is a treatment to prevent HIV infection. It consists in taking two drugs combined in a single pill either every day or “on-demand” before and after a sexual intercourse (two pills 2 to 24 hours before sex, a third tablet 24 hours after the first intake and a fourth tablet 24 hours later. It is prescribed by physicians. Currently, the two drugs recommended are emtricitabine [FTC] and tenofovir disoproxil fumarate [TDF] that are sold in Thailand under various brand names (Truvada, Teno-EM, Tenof-EM and Ricovir-EM)
